How To Lay A Paver Patio

by Tiffany Gonzales

Paver patios seem to be a trendy option that has replaced the large concrete pads seen in most backyards. Those old concrete pads have cracked with time and broken apart, leaving you with the burden of having to tear them out and replace them, which can be costly. A paver patio could be the answer you are looking for, as it can be budget-friendly and easy to remove when the time comes. Paver patios can be installed by a professional company, or you may be able to lay your own patio if you are handy and have the time. Read on for some tips to lay your own paver patio.

Here's a list of tools and materials needed for the job: paver bricks, pea gravel, a tamper, shovels, spray paint, string and marking sticks, a rubber mallet, a wheelbarrow, sand, and a level.

Instructions:

  1. To start, you'll want to mark the area in which you want your paver patio. A larger patio will take much longer to lay and could be time-consuming on your part. Hiring a professional for a larger project may be the best option. Once you have the area marked, use your marking sticks and string to mark it out and the spray paint to guide you on where to dig out the grass and dirt.
  2. Use your shovel to begin to remove the top layer of grass and level out the ground beneath. Load it all in your wheelbarrow to be hauled away. The sod can be used elsewhere in your yard, or around the patio for fill-in, so don't take it too far away.
  3. Using the level, tamper, and pea gravel, begin to tamp down the entire area to level it smoothly and evenly. Check with your level over and over again to ensure you have level ground. Without level ground, your paver patio will not be installed correctly, and you could end up with loose pavers, or broken ones with time.
  4. Begin to lay your paver bricks one by one, starting in the center of the patio and working your way around. You can use spacers if you need to, to ensure you have equal spacing amongst your pavers. Add more pea gravel and tamp down anywhere that needs to be leveled out. Check for levelness as you go with each paver you lay.
  5. Once you have them all laid out, you should check that they are all level again with your level and then use the pea gravel to fill in between the pavers, or you can fill it in with sand as well.

Installing a paver patio can be time-consuming and a lot of work, but the end result will be the envy of your neighbors. Hire a professional landscaping company to help you with this task, especially if you are tackling a larger project. Contact a company like KeyStone Pavers & Asphalt LLC for more info.

About Me

Creating A Gorgeous Garden

I have always been someone who absolutely adores being outside, which is probably one of the reasons I decided to buy a home with a large lot. However, as soon as I moved in, I realized that yard work was a lot more challenging than I had anticipated, which is why I called in a team of professional landscapers. They were amazing to work with and got right to it, and within a few days, the yard was looking amazing. I wanted to create a blog all about creating beautiful outdoors spaces so that other people can help to beautify the world.
