Recommendations To Install And Care For Your New Sod

by Tiffany Gonzales

A new lawn makes a great addition to your landscaping and the appearance of your property. But to get a new lawn from seed takes several weeks and up to a couple of months before you have a thick lawn you can enjoy, which makes sod such a great option. With sod, you have an instant lawn on your property, but you need to follow some helpful tips to have a successful sod installation. Here are some recommendations to help you install and ensure the success of your new sod lawn.

Consider the Amount of Sun

Before you plant any vegetation, especially a lawn in your yard, you need to consider the type of sun the area will receive. Different types of plant vegetation will thrive and grow best in different types of sun and shade elements. So, if your backyard is a full sun area, you can plan on installing one of the common types of lawn for your climate. However, if you find that some areas of your yard experience shade for most or all of the day, you need to plan the sod order a bit differently.

A sod lawn planted in areas of full shade will grow well and thick instead of thin and poorly, so check with your sod or landscape professional about your options. Areas with shade should be installed with a type of sod that will tolerate these conditions, such as zoysiagrass, and in partial shade areas, look for centipede grass or carpet grass.

Prepare the Area

Once you have chosen the right type of sod to order and install, you need to prepare the area for your new lawn to grow and thrive. But simply considering the shade and sun amounts will not keep your lawn healthy, as it will need a good schedule with regular irrigation. And the best way to accomplish this is to install a sprinkler system that will cover all areas of your new lawn.

Plan out a sprinkler set-up of all areas that you will install with your new sod delivery so the water reaches all areas of the sod. Make sure the sprinklers overlap one another so coverage is sufficient, especially for cool weather sod, which will need plenty of water. This will help your lawn survive through high temperatures because the roots will have access to moisture deep within the soil even if the surface soil is dry from the weather.

Be sure you begin watering your newly installed lawn immediately after you install it. Keep the sod wet for several days until you are sure it has taken root. Reach out to a professional for more information about sod installation

About Me

Creating A Gorgeous Garden

I have always been someone who absolutely adores being outside, which is probably one of the reasons I decided to buy a home with a large lot. However, as soon as I moved in, I realized that yard work was a lot more challenging than I had anticipated, which is why I called in a team of professional landscapers. They were amazing to work with and got right to it, and within a few days, the yard was looking amazing. I wanted to create a blog all about creating beautiful outdoors spaces so that other people can help to beautify the world.
