Autumn Lawn Care Recommendations For Your Commercial Property

by Tiffany Gonzales

An attractive and healthy-looking lawn is something you need to work at all season and into the fall before you can let your lawn go dormant in the winter. In the fall, there are some important tasks you need to handle to prepare your lawn for the colder season. Here are some recommendations and tips to keep your commercial lawn in the best shape for fall and through the winter until spring.

Remove the Thatch

After a long season of growing, your lawn is going to collect a layer of dead vegetation that thickens above the soil layer. This dead layer of thatch collects and forms an impenetrable layer that moisture, fertilizer, and oxygen cannot get through to the roots of your lawn. It is important that you take some time at the end of the summer to clear off this thatch to help the lawn receive the nutrients it needs from fertilizer to boost its health for fall and winter.

Use a thatch rake to pull up the layer of thatch. You can also contact your lawn care professional to remove the thatch with their mower or thatch rake.

Clear Up Leaves

Another threat to your lawn at the start of the fall season occurs when the leaves on any nearby trees fall from the branches. Leaves collect upon your commercial landscaped lawn and can compact onto the lawn. Then, if any rainfall occurs it turns the leaves into a damaging layer upon the lawn. If you leave the leaves in place on your lawn they will begin to decompose and starve out your grass of its essential elements, including sunlight and oxygen.

Be sure to remove the leaves from your lawn when they collect to prevent lawn damage. Anytime leaves blow onto the property from nearby trees, you need to clear them as well. Your landscape professional can collect them with their mower or by raking the lawn leaves up.

Manage Mowing Appropriately

It is important to recognize that in the fall, your lawn is not going to grow as quickly as it does during the heat of summer. When day and night temperatures come down and the soil temperatures fall, your commercial lawn growth reduces. Instead of weekly mowing, you may only need to mow a couple of times each week to keep up with its growth.

Take care that you do not mow your lawn too often or cut off too much of the lawn's length, as it can cause stress to the lawn and put it at risk of disease and pest problems. Your professional landscaper can provide a healthy maintenance schedule to adjust to your lawn's fall needs.

About Me

Creating A Gorgeous Garden

I have always been someone who absolutely adores being outside, which is probably one of the reasons I decided to buy a home with a large lot. However, as soon as I moved in, I realized that yard work was a lot more challenging than I had anticipated, which is why I called in a team of professional landscapers. They were amazing to work with and got right to it, and within a few days, the yard was looking amazing. I wanted to create a blog all about creating beautiful outdoors spaces so that other people can help to beautify the world.
