You want to be sure to stay on top of your lawn or you can quickly see some things happen in the yard that can be problematic and possibly costly to take care of. Your grass will die
The most obvious thing that can happen to your lawn if you don't take proper care of it is that it will die. If the lawn dies in some areas, then there may be the chance that you won't be able to simply bring it back with watering and nutrients. This means you will have to have the process of reseeding done and then hope that new grass grows from the seeds. If not, then you may need to have sod laid in those areas and this will cost you more money and hassle than it would have cost you to simply have the lawn properly cared for to begin with.
Your grass will become overgrown
If your grass is regularly watered, but it isn't mowed as often as it should be, then it can become overgrown in no time at all. If this happens then it may not be as easy as you think to mow the lawn back down to the proper length. Many times, the lawn will bend under the mower instead of being cut. This makes the process of mowing it take a lot longer than it normally would have. Plus, there will be a lot more raking or emptying of the mower bag and there will be more clippings to haul off.
Your lawn will harbor many pests
While you may always have pests in your lawn, taller lawn can be more dangerous. This is due to ticks that may be in the grass. When the grass is overgrown, there is more of a chance that there will be ticks that can transfer onto your ankles or even your socks when you walk through the lawn. Ticks can be very dangerous to your health because they can transmit horrible illnesses like rocky mountain spotted fever.
Weeds and stickers
Without proper lawn care, your lawn can have weeds growing in it. The weeds can have stickers in them that can harm your pets if the stickers get in their fur.
