Tips For Lighting Your Patio

If you have a patio, there's a good chance that you want to get as much use out of it as possible. This means making sure that it is well lit enough to use at night for gatherings and other events. Here are some tips for lighting your patio so that it is charming and functional.
1. Invest in Solar Powered String Lights
If you have a patio that gets a lot of direct sunlight during the day, invest in string lights that are solar powered. The reason for this is that many people find string lights to be extremely charming. They are bright enough so that people can easily see who they are talking to and what they are doing, but soft enough to hide people's physical flaws and make them feel less self conscious. Using solar powered lights will help keep your electricity costs down and will allow you to minimize your carbon footprint. These lights usually have a charging panel that you can attach to a stake and stick in the ground so that it is undisturbed and able to receive a lot of sunlight. Do not get colored lights unless you are planning on decorating for Christmas or some other specific holiday. Opt for soft white lights.
2. Get a Candle Chandelier
If you have an awning or roof over your patio, consider getting a chandelier that either has real candle holder or electric candles. You should be able to run a power cord through the roof of the patio and into your house where you can access the main electricity line. This will provide a romantic, centralized source of light that will make dining under the patio at night a very pleasant activity. If you are looking for a more old fashioned aesthetic, you can achieve the same effect with a cluster of candlelit mason jars.
3. Use Pendant Lighting
If you have a sturdy roof and a large patio, you might want to use pendant lighting to light your garden. The power cords for these lights will also need to be run through the roof and into the house to be plugged in. The advantage of these lights is that you can vary their heights so that you achieve a more interesting lighting effect than usual.
