Retaining walls are sometimes very necessary in a yard, but are not always as visually appealing as they could be. If you have a retaining wall that sticks out like an eyesore in your yard, consider updating the look of it to make it more visually appealing. Here are a few options to consider when trying to give your retaining wall more curb appeal.
Consider Adding a Stone Face to the Wall
If you want to give the wall an elegant look, consider adding stone to it. There are flat stones that are designed for use against walls. The stones are available in many different shapes, sizes, and colors so you need to take the time to consider the look that you want to create. Each stone will need to be placed by hand to ensure that they are placed perfectly so that the wall is covered entirely. You want to be sure that the mortar that is used between the stones pairs well with their color so that you can have a seamless look when everything is said and done.
Consider Adding a Brick Facade to the Wall
Brick facades are bricks that are designed to create the look of brick without actually having to add brick to the wall. The bricks are roughly half the thickness of a normal brick and are designed to attach to the wall with mortar. They are attached in a way to make them look like stacked bricks were used to create the wall. Bricks alone would not be strong enough to hold the soil in place though. A retaining wall is necessary. The bricks will also be available in a variety of shades so be sure to choose a shade that will match nicely with the color of your home.
Consider Stenciling the Wall
Finally, if you want to add an artistic element to your yard, consider having a mural stencil or painted onto the wall. You can choose any design you like, but be sure to choose something that will be accepted by your neighborhood. Anything that is too risqué could get you into trouble with your neighborhood HOA.
